In the last week of June our intrepid Managing Director, Tim Myatt, conquered the Three Peaks Yacht Race for the second time, with all the sponsorship and proceeds from a glitzy after race party, attended by 250 guests, all going to the James Myatt Trust to take disadvantaged children on challenging sailing holidays.
Tim and the other 4 members of the Torbellino Team, were thrilled to gain a very creditable 6th place this year, a full 6 place improvement on last years 12th position. The gruelling race, which takes 5 days and nights to complete, starting in North Wales, and sailing to the Highlands of Scotland, requires each team to race up Britains highest peaks, Snowdon in Wales, Scafell in England and culminating in Ben Nevis in Scotland.
Microstat believe this is a most valuable charity to support, and hopes the team will endeavour to raise more money next year and see if they can achieve a podium finish!

Microstat are very pleased to announce that they have taken delivery of the very latest microfiche scanning equipment from Wicks and Wilson. This is because Microfiche scanning and microfilm scanning is an important part of Microstats business. Converting microfilm and microfiche to PDF or TIF format is becoming increasingly important to organizations.
After carefully evaluating the market we settled on Wicks and Wilson FS 300 microfiche scanners to give us the best possible equipment for high speed and high quality images from microfiche. This is in addition to our ability to scan from microfilm in reel format and microfilm drawings in aperture cards.
Commenting on this latest purchase, Managing Director, Steve Cave added, ‘ We strongly believe that we are able to handle any job of any size very quickly indeed with this latest investment. Myself and my team were very impressed with the speed and quality offered by Wicks and Wilson kit – and the fact that they are designed and built in Britain is the icing on the cake, I think it is superb that we can invest in a home grown product!’
We have already scanned 10,000 microfiche for a client within a matter of weeks of taking delivery, and the results so impressed the client, a repeat order has already been secured.
If you want a quote or a free sample from your microfilm, microfiche or aperture card, please get in touch, we would love to help.

You may have heard in the news that the 1911 census for England has been made publicly available on-line for the first time this week. Demand to access this resource is expected to be so high that the Government warned of possible website crashes at the same time as they announced its existence!
It has been made possible by a huge scanning programme carried out by the government of the original hand written records which provides a fascinating snap shot of how 38 million people lived 98 years ago. Football fans will be fascinated ( or not ) to know that David Beckhams great, great grandfather John Beckham was a rag and bone man in London! Well perhaps information on your own family ancestors will seem interesting to you!
Here at Microstat we have been scanning records of a genealogical nature for years, and often suggest to clients that once the records are digitised, that we apply OCR ( Optical Character Recognition ) software over the images in order to allow Full Text Search. Obviously the search advantages that this brings is not restricted purely to digitised Ancestry records, but ANY information that needs searching. For example, searching for ” John Beckham” would bring up all pages containing that phrase, across a repository even of millions of pages!
At Microstat, we have scanned either the documents from an organisation, or digitised their microfilm or microfiche records, and then applied the OCR software, allowing them virtually instant access to any word or phrase. If you would like to see how we can help you, we will scan a section of your records, free of charge.
Contact us at enquiry@microstat.co.uk or call 0121 486 2020 and speak to Tim Myatt or Steve Cave about our service
